Punjab in commanding position on day 2

Lucknow, Dec 15 (UNI) A record 271 run opening wicket partnership between Kunwar Rana (122) and Perry Goel (221) put Punjab in commanding position against Hyderabad on day two of the final round of the Cooch Behar U-19 league matches here at the LDA stadium today.

In the other league match, R Prashanth (92 Not out) and N Einstein (56 not out) at the K D Singh Babu stadium propelled their innings to 198 losing only 2 wickets against Assam's first innings score of 302 at the end of the day's play.

Resuming thier innings from overnight's 81 for no loss after restricting Hyderabad at a paltry 192 both the openers started from where they left. Goel in his 221 runs hit 30 bounderies and one six, while his partner Rana despatched the ball towards boundary 17 times and once over the fence in the teams total of 455 losing five wickets during the process. At the draw of stumps for the day Himanshu Chawla and Gurkeerat guarding the crease at 46 and 21 runs respectively.

At the K D Singh Babu stadium Assam's innings ended after scoring more runs in their overnight score of 257 for four wickets at 302.

Wicket keeper U Sushil took five catches for Tamil Nadu (TN).

In reply TN gave a solid reply to Assam scoring 198 runs at the cost of only two wickets. R Prasahanth unbeaten 8 short of his century. Skipper Einstein was the other not out batsman at 56.

G Antony claimed four wickets for TN.
