Punjab Rural Games to begin tomorrow

Hoshiarpur, Oct 9 (UNI) As many as 1,900 players from different districts of Punjab will compete in the Punjab State Rural Games for boys Under-16, which will commence tomorrow at the Open Stadium here.

Punjab Sports Director Pargat Singh said here today that the Games would provide an opportunity for the rural youth to compete at the block, district, state and national levels.

The Sports Director said since the rural area lack sports infrastructure as compared to the urban area, these games would enthuse interest in the rural sports talent.

He informed that 150 technical officials had been deputed for the smooth conduct of the Games.

Sports disciplines in the Rural Games include athletics, archery, football, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, tug of war, volleyball, wrestling and weightlifting. During the State Rural Games, a Punjab contingent will be finalised which will compete in the forthcoming All-India Rural Games.
