Gurugram, March 25: In a pioneering effort to cultivate interest in golf among the youth at the grassroots level, the Indian Golf Union (IGU), in collaboration with The R&A, successfully conducted the first IGU Golf Sixes League in Gurugram on Tuesday (March 24).

This event, hosted at the prestigious DLF Golf & Country Club, marked a significant step towards making golf a more accessible and enjoyable sport for young children. Punjab emerged victorious in this inaugural competition, highlighting the immense potential and talent present among the young golfers representing six different states.

The innovative competition format, which featured six players under the age of 12 from each team, played a crucial role in making the tournament both exciting and competitive.

The scramble best ball stroke play format ensured that the focus was on team effort and strategy, with the two best scores from three pairs in each team determining their final standings.

Punjab's winning team, consisting of pairs Upraj Singh-Zorawar and Shlok Limaye-Guransh, showcased exceptional skill and teamwork, accumulating a total of 40 points to secure the title.

Neal Graham, the R&A development manager for the Middle East, Central Asia, and India, lauded the Indian Golf Union for organising such a successful tournament. He expressed optimism about the Golf Sixes League's potential to attract new enthusiasts to the sport, stating, "Golf Sixes League is a proven development initiative which encourages new golfers into the sport in a fun and competitive way."
