London, October 17 : Britain's Olympic heroes met the Queen during a reception at Buckingham Palace.
Some of the medallists felt all jittery about meeting the monarch.
While double Olympic swimming champion was "too nervous to speak", 400m runner Christine Ohuruogu said that her heart was pounding with excitement.
There were about 69 medallists among the 550 guests at the celebratory reception, reports the Daily Express.
Besides the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal, who is President of the British Olympic Association, also greeted the sports stars.
The reception followed a day in which the cream of the Olympic team were treated to a ride through London on floats.
Many athletes described the parade as a fantastic experience, and as a day they would remember for the rest of their lives.
