'Hum Raaton Mein Sooraj Ugaate Hain': Rahul Dravid, IPL Legacy & Signify’s Lighting Revolution in Indian Sports

When innovation meets purpose, and a sporting icon becomes the face of transformation, the result is a campaign that does more than advertise- it inspires.

Signify, the global leader in lighting, has not only powered stadiums across India but has also revolutionised grassroots sports through its flagship CSR program, Khel Jyoti. Leading the campaign's voice is none other than Rahul Dravid, a name that commands respect both on and off the field.

Rahul Dravid: The Ideal Face of Integrity and Impact

In a cricket-obsessed nation, few names evoke the credibility and quiet strength that Rahul Dravid does. His association with Signify is a conscious and strategic choice, explained by Nikhil Gupta, Head of Marketing, Strategy, Government Affairs & CSR at Signify, Greater India.

"We wanted someone who mirrors our brand values-resilience, integrity, and leadership. Rahul Dravid was the perfect choice to carry that message forward," he said to MyKhel.

Dravid's endorsement adds both gravitas and reach to the campaign. His values align seamlessly with Signify's mission to empower communities through lighting innovation. The tagline, "Hum Raaton Mein Sooraj Ugaate Hain", is more than a metaphor- it's a reflection of Signify's commitment to lighting up lives, dreams, and playing fields long after the sun sets.

IPL Stadiums: Signify's Stamp on Premier Cricket

While Khel Jyoti is reshaping grassroots sports, Signify also holds an elite presence in top-tier venues, especially those that host Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. Their advanced LED lighting systems ensure that players perform at peak potential and fans experience matches in crystal clarity.

Key venues lit by Signify include- Dharamshala Cricket Stadium, known for its stunning Himalayan backdrop and high-altitude challenge, now enjoys top-tier visibility under Signify's solutions.

Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad which hosted the 2023 ICC World Cup Final, is also lighted up by Signify. DY Patil Sports Stadium, Navi Mumbai, is another key venue illuminated by Signify, making it a preferred location for both cricket and football.

These venues stand testament to Signify's technical prowess and their role in elevating the broadcast and player experience in one of the world's most-watched sporting events.

Illuminating the Grassroots: From Assam to Karnataka

The real story, however, is unfolding in India's villages and semi-urban regions. Under Khel Jyoti, over 180 sports grounds have been illuminated, directly impacting over 50,000 athletes and coaches across disciplines like athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, and more.

In Assam, the partnership with the Brahmaputra Volleyball League (BVL) has lit up 120 rural courts, allowing young athletes to extend their practice time by 3-4 hours daily. More than 900 matches were played in BVL's fifth season, with over half conducted under floodlights provided by Signify. The lighting not only accelerated the tournament schedule but brought national attention to rural talent, thanks to the presence of dignitaries such as FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and Olympic champion Vladimir Grbić at the finals.

In Mundgod, Karnataka, the intervention at the SIDDI tribal community's training ground brought to light the extraordinary journey of Nayana Kokare- a bronze medalist at the U20 Athletics Championships, now training under an international coach in the UK.

"This is what Khel Jyoti is all about, which is unlocking potential that was always there, but hidden in the shadows," said Nikhil Gupta.

Looking ahead, projects such as the lighting of 17 grounds in Punjab's Schools of Eminence show how Signify is evolving its CSR model to focus on schools with a proven track record in athletics but inadequate infrastructure.

"No region is a barrier for us. We'll go wherever there is talent and a need for light-be it volleyball in Assam, athletics in Karnataka, or football in Punjab. The goal remains the same: give every aspiring athlete the chance to train longer, safer, and better," he concluded, with a robust message of illuminating India.
