Rahul Sangma in sole lead in Sobroto Memorial Chess

New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) In an upset of sorts, talented youngster Rahul Sangma grabbed the sole lead after defeating International Master (IM) Saptarshi Roy in the seventh round of the 2nd Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee Memorial All India Open International Rating Chess here today.

Playing black side of scotch game, Rahul Sangma showed good tactical skills in the middle game and overcame his rival after 42 moves.

Overnight joint leader IM D P Singh tasted his first defeat in the tournament at the hands of IM Himanshu Sharma.

Himanshu Sharma and five others including third seed IM Satyapragyan, who defeated Praveen Prasad of AP is trailing the leader by half a point.
