The Railways team emerged victorious at the 8th Elite Women's National Boxing Championship, claiming a total of nine medals, including five golds at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex on Thursday (March 27). The Haryana team, with a commendable effort, secured six medals, positioning themselves second, while the All India Police team rounded out the top three with seven medals.
The championship, which spanned over a week, saw participation from 188 boxers representing 24 state units, competing across ten weight categories. The Railways athletes, aside from securing the top spot with their gold medals, also added four bronze medals to their tally.

Haryana's athletes brought home two gold medals, three silver, and one bronze, showcasing their prowess. The All India Police team, not far behind, won one gold, four silver, and two bronze medals, demonstrating their competitive spirit.
Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, took the opportunity to acknowledge the exceptional talent displayed throughout the tournament by announcing a cash prize of INR 50,000 for the top performers. Jaismine Lamboria from the Services Sports Promotion Board was named Best Boxer, while Simranjit Kaur from Punjab received the Best Challenger award. Laxmi and Rekha Swami were recognized as Best Referee and Best Judge, respectively, underscoring the importance of every role in the success of the event.
"We remain committed to protecting the interests of our boxers and ensuring that all National Championships are successfully completed within the next two months," stated BFI President Ajay Singh, detailing the federation’s plans for upcoming championships. His vision articulated a clear roadmap for the Youth National Championship in April, the Junior National Championship in May, and the Sub-Junior National Championship in June, underlining a continuous commitment to nurturing boxing talent across the country.
Singh also extended his gratitude towards the UP Boxing Association, BFI officials, athletes, and referees for their contributions to the smooth execution of the event. He encouraged boxers to set their sights on the World Boxing Cup, scheduled to be hosted in India in November, highlighting an opportunity for global recognition.
The railways team's remarkable performance was led by Anamika and Nupur, who both defended their national titles with authority. Anamika secured the light flyweight championship with a unanimous vote against Tamanna from Haryana, while Nupur retained her heavyweight title by overpowering Kiran from the All India Police. Sonia Lather, demonstrating her versatility, clinched the 60kg category, and Sanamacha Chanu and Muskan further contributed to the Railways' gold tally with their victories.
From the Services, Jaismine Lamboria and Sakshi showcased exceptional talent, maintaining a perfect win record for their team. Lamboria's outstanding performance in the featherweight category and Sakshi's quick victory highlighted the depth of talent across the teams. Haryana's Pooja Rani and Neeraj Phogat also made significant contributions to their team's success, with Rani moving up a weight category to secure gold and Phogat winning a closely contested battle in the 60-65kg division. Minakshi, representing the All India Police, successfully defended her title, adding another gold to her team's collection.
The event also drew support from notable figures in the boxing world, including Olympian and World Championship Bronze Medallist Nishant Dev, who encouraged the young athletes to aim high and make their mark on the national stage.
