Rain deprive Sahara India to enter semis

Lucknow, Jun 8 (UNI) Wee hours' heavy rain deprived host Sahara India to enter the semi-finals of the 56th Sahara City Homes Sheesh Mahal Cricket tournament here today.

In the last league matches of the tournament's pool 'B' today- Sahara India needed a win against Rizvi Builders, who already entered the semi-finals by winning their both the league matches earlier, to qualify for the semi-finals, but due to heavy rain the K D Singh Babu ground was not fit for play.

The semi-finals will now be played between ONGS and Indian Oil at the K D Singh Babu stadium and Air India Vs Rizvi builders at the Chowk stadium tomorrow.

The stand-in umpires inspected the pitch and ground conditions to start the match, but they find it unfit for the play and both the teams were awarded 2 points each. With the division of points Rizvi Builders accumulated 11 points with two wins and Sahara India with one win and one defeat, collected only 9 points.

The other league match of the same pool between Colombo Colts Sri Lanka and Indian Oil at Chowk stadium was rescheduled and the 40 overs match was curtailed to 24 ovres a side.

The Sri Lanka put in to bat first at the Chowk stadium loss the wicket of their skipper M Warnapura, when he tried to steal a single on the very first ball of the innings and Ravikant Shukla's direct hit shattered the wickets. Colt's team scored 108 runs.

Balkrishan Shirke scalped 4 wickets.

Indian Oil's openers Cheteshwar Pujara (50) and A Rahane (60) reached the target spearing 8.2 overs.

With this win Indian oil earned 5 points including one bonus point.

At the end of the league matches of the pool the points tables is Rizvi Builder 11, Indian Oil 9, Sahara India 7 and Colombo Colts -3.
