Rain threatens Daredevils' semi-final chances

By Staff

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) The Delhi Daredevils' hopes of making into the semi-finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) received a setback when the hosts were greeted with a fresh downpour just minutes before their penultimate match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Feroz Shah Kotla here today.

The ground was majorly covered but still the outfield was almost under water and the chances of play tonight looked bleak.

While Daredevils have six wins from 12 games, Knight Riders can just hope for a miracle to happen as their chances to finish in the last four seems very slim.

The weather had already put a big question mark on this crucial tie and if there is no play today both the teams will be awarded a point each.

The start can be delayed till 2330 hrs but the rain which has refused to stop might not allow any play tonight.

The players and the crowd, which has gathered in small numbers, could do nothing but to frustratingly wait for rain to stop.

However, if the points are shared, Sehwag's boys will still have slim hope for a semi-final berth but the Knight Riders, in all probability, will be out of the race.

The controversies sorrounding its owner Shah Rukh Khan and captain Sourav Ganguly have further dented the confidence in the Knight Riders' camp.
