Rain threatens to interrupt World Cup final

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Apr 27 (Reuters) Light showers could interrupt the World Cup final between holders Australia and Sri Lanka tomorrow.

The Barbados capital had been bathed in sunshine for more than two weeks but overcast skies and outbreaks of rain were forecast for both today and tomorrow. Temperatures are expected to reach 31 degrees Celsius.

Only one match -- the opening second-round Super Eights contest between hosts West Indies and Australia in Antigua --out of the 50 so far contested had to be carried over into a reserve day.

Organisers have the option of completing the final on Sunday should the match be interrupted tomorrow or use the Duckworth-Lewis system to adjust the number of overs/target for the teams if bad weather comes into the equation for the tournament finale.
