Rangekar XI in command vs Merchant XI; Manjrekar XI beat Phadkar XI

Mumbai, Oct 24 (UNI) Siddhesh Kinlekar (61) and Bhushan Shinde (55) dashed Vijay Merchant XI's hopes of making a strong come back with resolute sixth wicket partnership of 99 runs for Khandu Rangnekar XI on the third day of the 23rd Sportstar Trophy, Mumbai Cricket Association Under-19 selection trial tournament at the Elf-Vengsarkar CA ground, Oval here today.

Seamer Anuj Akil and off spinner Pratik Gawli had reduced Rangnekar XI to 45 for five in the second innings when Kinlekar was joined by Bhushan Shinde after the last ball of the 18 over.

Thereafter the sixth wicket pair raised 99 runs in 36 overs.

Kinlekar batted for 182 minutes, faced 129 balls and struck eight fours in his knock of 61, while Shinde batted for 161 minutes, faced 108 balls and hit six fours to make 55. After their departure, the last wicket pair of Virendra Morya and Digvijay Singh frustrated Merchant XI for almost two hours and added an unbeaten 71 runs for the last wicket.

Rangnekar XI now has an overall lead of 325 runs with a day remaining.

At Fort Vijay, Azad Maidan, seamer Sahil Madgaonkar's superb effort of six for 32 and fine left arm spin bowling Himanshu Santholia paved the way for a 146 run victory for Vijay Manjrekar XI against Dattu Phadkar XI. Asked to make 289, Phadkar XI folded up for 142. Santholia who took five wickets in the first innings finished with an eight wicket tally.
