RCF surrender big advantage to ONGC

Chandigarh, Jun 11 (UNI) Trailing by 2-7 till 22nd minute, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation of Delhi exploited the weakness of young and inexperienced Rail Coach Factory of Kapurthala whom they pipped by 9-8 in a thrilling semi-final match of the sixth Olympian Dharam Singh Six-a-Side Hockey Tournament being held at the Sector 18 Hockey Stadium here on Wednesday night.

The highlight of the match was a brilliant hat-trick by Sandeep Anitl who struck goals in the 23th (penalty stroke), 24th (penalty stroke), 27th (penalty corner), 28th and 30th minutes. Arun Rawat (8th minute), Jasbir (9th) and Baljinder (27th, penalty stroke) contributed one goal each.

Paramjeet (10th, 14th penalty corner), Deepak (17th pc, 19th), Sanjay (17th ps, 22nd ps) and Gagandeep (2nd, 27th pc) put up a good fight before surrendering the big advantage.

RCF goalkeeper Gurnam Singh made more than half a dozen brilliant saves. He even thwarted Olympian Harpal Singh from converting a penalty stroke. However, after leading 7-2, the RCF players started committing mistakes which ONGC exploited. With few minutes left, RCF's Paramjeet was shown yellow card and his team had to play with four players for five minutes. That also tilted the balance in favour of ONGC. Top scorer Sandeep Antil struck three goals in a row in the 27th, 28th and 30th minutes for his hat-trick.

With only 24 seconds left, RCF failed to earn a penalty corner.

Had they done so, they would have been awarded a stroke as they had two penalty corners to their credit. After three penalty corners, a penalty stroke is awarded.

ONGC converted five penalty corners out of eight awarded to them.

They also converted two penalty strokes out of three. RCF could convert three penalty corners out of five. However, their penalty stroke was hundered per cent as they converted two out of two.
