Record entries for state level memorial aquatic meet

Pune Nov 13 (UNI) A record number of 700 entries have been confirmed for the 10th edition of the state level Tushar Agrawal memorial aquatic championship which gets underway at the Le Royale Residency Club pool here on November 18.

Le Royale Residency Club General Manager, Arun George and Chairman of the tournament committee, Ramesh Vipat addressing media persons here today said the one day meet having gained a state level status has attracted entries from Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Nasik, Thane, Panvel and Pimpri-Chinchwad apart from Pune and Mumbai.

''We have recently renovated the pool so that the boys and girls could give out their best,'' said Mr George. ''The club also has glass back squash courts and a posh air condition hall for the cue sports as well,'' he added.

The popular annual swimming gala was started ten years back to perpetuate the memory of young and dynamic, 20 year old, late Tushar Agrawal, who passed away in rather unfortunate circumstances.

The memorial meet offers competition for boys and girls in 14 age groups namely under 6, under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14 ,under 16 besides men and women. A 54 event card has been laid out for the day and the first three winners in each group will be awarded usual medals and trophies. The individual champions in the group will also be given cash incentive of Rs 500 plus a trophy, Mr Vipat pointed out.
