Record field for National Chess Championship

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Defending champion Santosh Vidit Gujarati start as favourite in the 21st National Under-13 Boys Chess Championship to be held here from tomorrow.

Asian Medallist Prasanna Rao and former Under-12 world champion Srinath Narayanan are also in contention for the title and are expected to give Santosh a strong competition.

Under-10 Bronze Medallist Prince Bajaj,Commonwealth Gold Medallist Vaibhav Suri and youngster Harshal Sahi are leading the local challenge from Delhi.

The top three players from this event will be selected to represent the country in the World and Asian Chess Championships.

The championship has attracted a record number of 250 entries which is nearly double the participation of this tournament's previous edition.
