Renedy and Manju to play for Bhaichung''s team

Gangtok, Feb 18 (PTI) Bhaichung Bhutia has roped in Indiateammates Renedy Singh and N S Manju to play alongside him forhis club United Sikkim Football Club (USFC) in the I-Leaguesecond division.

USFC has signed 30 players (four foreigners, 11 fromSikkim, one from Darjeeling and a few others from differentparts of the country), who are presently undergoing trainingin Kolkata under coach Stanley Rozario, Bhutia, who is alsothe director of USFC told a press conference here lastevening.

USFC will be led by Renedy Singh, Bhutia, who will alsowear the USFC jersey, said.

Bhutia said the club is aiming to qualify for the firstdivision within 3 years, but added that he is confident of theteam making the grade in its first attempt.

He disclosed that Nike will sponsor the club this seasonadding that the objective of the club is to revive the lovefor football and sports in the state.

"We aim to promote football in the entire northeasternregion as brand ambassadors based in Sikkim," he stressed. Theclub will be trained by four experienced coaches and has manymore big surprises in store, Bhutia said..

He also said that he plans to spend more time in Sikkimpermanently from June onwards.

The Indian captain said that he has met the Sikkim ChiefMinister, who has given a positive response to his proposal tostart a football academy in the state and even provided therequired land in south district.

Renedy, who has been signed for four months, said thatthe club has huge potential but needs the support of the localpeople.

The league has a total of 21 teams, two of whom willqualify for the top division.
