Review system alters the momentum of game, says Inzamam

New Delhi, Sep 2 (UNI) The umpire review system which was put to trial in the recently concluded Test series between India and Sri Lanka has come under strong crticism from the former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq who believes that the system was against the tradition and spirit of the game.

''The momentum of the game is gone. You have to depend on the umpires. After all, everybody is human and everybody makes mistakes and umpires too make mistakes,''Inzamam said while speaking to a news channel CNN-IBN.

''But that is the beauty of the game, the umpires make the decisions. Sometimes the advantage goes to this team and sometimes to that team. But if every decision goes to the third umpires, then the momentum of the game is broken,'' he added.

The review system was used on experimental basis by the ICC in the Test series in Sri Lanka which the hosts won 3-2.

Under the review system, each team is given a maximum of three review successful appeals. While the consensus at the end of the experiment was that it would help in eliminating all the obvious errors.

However, the system received mixed thoughts from the cricket pundits as there were a few who believe that no alterations should be made in the existing rules while the others feel that the the game should be made error-free.

Indian captain Anil Kumble, at the end of the series, said it was too early to pass a judgement on the trial, and it had to be discussed and fine tuned further.
