Rewarding day for Chandresh
Mumbai, Aug 22 (UNI) Veteran Chandresh Shah of P J Hindu Gymkhana enjoyed a rewarding day when he stormed into the billiards as well as snooker semi-finals, in the Kotak Mahindra Bank-Wilson Jones Open Handicap Championship, at the P J Hindu Gymkhana here today.
Enjoying home conditions on a familiar top, Shah (+35) ended the campaign of 15-year-old Mundir Sherazi (+40) of Karnataka following an emphatic 95-84, 63-120, 91-78, 98-43 win in the best-of-five frames snooker quarter-finals.
Shah, who got off to a good start after snatching a tight opening frame, ignored the loss of the second frame and raced to victory in a trice, his win reflecting the form he is enjoying in the competition.
Inspired by the success, Shah then fashioned a pulsating eight-point win over the dangerous Sarang Shroff in the billiards semi-finals.
Playing an uninhibited game and showing scant respect for his formidable opponent, Shah (-30) held his nerve in the closing stages of the contest to surge to a 250-242 win, in a match between quality cueists.
