Rio Olympics: SAI 'unhappy' with foreign coaches

By Sujata Sarkar

Bengaluru, Sep 10: Sports Authority of India (SAI) which represents the Union sports ministry is "extremely unhappy" with the foreign coaches deployed in different disciplines for the enhancement of performance of the athletes in the respective disciplines.

And according to a recent report, submitted to the Union sports ministry by the SAI top brass, has reportedly mentioned the name of long distance coach Nikolai Snesarev and hinted that the performance of Snesarev was not satisfactory and along with him, the other five foreign coaches also had a poor show in the Rio Olympics. But at the same time Mehta also expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of foreign coaches.

The SAI top brass is also reportedly unhappy with Snesarev due to the controversy over O P Jaisa's allegation against the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for not being active in providing the water during her marathon in Olympics. Jaisa alleged that she was almost senseless after the race due to tremendous heat and humidity in Rio.

And AFI has already informed IOA that it had repeatedly asked Snesarev a day before Jaisa's marathon whether she would require health drinks and water in between the race.

AFI joint-secretary CK Valson has said, "Snesarev has to come out and reply to the questions that why he refused the drinks and water for Jaisa offered by the organisers. Only due to Snesarev's refusal the controversy has come up. We are simply innocent."
