By Mike Joseph

ONE Championship will start 2024 off with a bang when two of the best strikers in all of combat sports collide at Tokyo, Japan's Ariake Arena on Sunday, 28 January 2024, at ONE 165.

ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon meets Japanese superstar Takeru Segawa in a highly anticipated flyweight kickboxing super-fight. Fans are thrilled with the official announcement following months of speculation tying the two icons together.

Rodtang vs Takeru Super-Fight set for ONE 165

ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong confirmed the Rodtang vs Takeru news at the ONE 165 press conference on Thursday, 30 November 2023, in Japan. He also announced the co-main event fixture between former ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion Shinya Aoki and Sage Northcutt.

Rodtang has become a staple of ONE's flyweight Muay Thai realm. "The Iron Man" has dominated 15 of his 16 outings in the world's largest martial arts organization. The Thai native has battled formidable names throughout his tenure such as Jacob Smith, Joseph Lasiri, and Tagir Khalilov.

In his biggest bout so far, "The Iron Man" went to war with ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE Friday Fights 34 this past September. And while he took home a narrow decision defeat, the Thai native's stock stayed soaring.

With the biggest fight in Muay Thai behind him, the Thai phenom now prepares for the biggest challenge ahead of him against Takeru at ONE 165 in this kickboxing super-fight.

The Japanese megastar's name has surrounded ONE Championship for quite some time. And many fans are excited to finally see the titans cross paths. But Takeru's resume speaks for itself ahead of his arrival in ONE.

Takeru was one of the hottest free agents on the market before signing with the world's largest martial arts organization. The 32-year-old is a coveted multi-time K-1 World Champion across a trifecta of weight brackets. And he also holds a glistening 42-3 record, with 25 of them coming by knockout.

The striking acumen of both men is bound to set up an electrifying contest between the scrappers in a real meeting of heart versus skill. Rodtang's reputation as an explosive, heart-on-his-sleeve combatant has made him beloved worldwide. Whereas Takeru's clinical prowess has allowed him to rise high among the rest.

As a pivotal 2023 comes to a close, the fiery festival of fisticuffs that's set to be portrayed in Tokyo, Japan, this January will certainly give fans something to look forward to as the holiday season soon commences.
