Rohit, Vaidehi in line for double crown
Chandigarh, June 7 (UNI) Rohit Bisht of Delhi is in line for a golden double as the top seeded stormed into the finals of boys under-14 as well as under-16 singles of the AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament here today.
Rohit ended the local challenge as he outplayed third seeded Mandeep Singh Gill in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 in the boys under-16 semi-final. Qualifier Saurabh Singh continued his winning campaign by ousting another qualifier Bharat Bhardwaj of Haryana 7-5, 6-2.
Top seed Rohit ousted fifth seed K Pradeep Reddy of Andhra Pradesh 6-4, 6-2 and fourth seed Digvijay Singh upset second seed Ronit Bisht of Delhi 6-0, 6-2 in the boys under-14 singles semi-finals.
Rohit Bisht will now face gusty Digvijay Singh Mehta of Himachal Pradesh in the boys under-14 singles final tomorrow. Both scored straight sets wins over their respective rivals.
Vaidehi Bhagwat of Maharashtra is also in line for a double crown as she figures in the girls under-16 and under-14 singles finals.
Seventh seed Vaidehi Bhagwat caused an upset by shocking second seed Shweta C Rana (Delhi) 7-5, 6-2.
Vaidehi will now challenge top seed Garima Vatwani of Delhi in the girls under-16 final.
Garima defeated Seevlee Upadhaya (Orissa) with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 margin.
Second seed Vaidehi Bhagwat will now challenge top seed Shweta C Rana in the girls under-14 singles final.
In semi-finals, Shweta beat fifth seed Prarthana Thombri of Maharashtra 6-1, 7-6 (9) and Vaidehi beat Anushka Bhargava of Andhra Pradesh 6-2, 6-1.
