Roman Kryklia vs Alex Roberts To Main Event ONE Fight Night 17

By Mike Joseph

ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Champion Roman Kryklia has been nothing short of a sheer force during his ONE Championship tenure as he looks to become the organization's next two-sport titleholder next month.

The Ukrainian giant stands across decorated debutant Alex Roberts for the inaugural ONE Heavyweight Muay Thai World Title in the main event of ONE Fight Night 17 in Bangkok, Thailand's Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on Saturday, 9 December.

Roman Kryklia to headline ONE Fight Night 17

The coveted collision fittingly headlines ONE's first-ever all-Muay Thai card, where the towering Kryklia has the chance to double his gold and keep his unblemished promotional streak alive in the process.

The 32-year-old has been unstoppable since arriving in ONE in 2019. Kryklia's first outing at ONE: AGE OF DRAGONS saw him knock out longtime foe Tarik Khbabez to claim the inaugural ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Title.

Kryklia then extended his dominant run in back-to-back World Title defenses before entering the 2022 ONE Heavyweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix, where he became an instant favorite to go all the way.

The striking skyscraper didn't disappoint fans, either. Kryklia knocked out Guto Inocente in just 52 seconds before completing his trilogy against fierce rival Iraj Azizpour, annihilating him in the second round at ONE 163 to claim the esteemed silver belt.

Following in the footsteps of the newest two-sport ONE World Champion Jonathan Haggerty, Kryklia plans to join the list of fighters to achieve this elite status. But the decorated Roberts will have something to say about that when the bell rings.

The Australian striker arrives in the promotion with plenty of momentum under his belt, having just claimed the WBC Heavyweight Muay Thai World Championship last month. And the caliber of those credentials makes him an immediate threat to Kryklia's golden run.

Given the crushing nature of Kryklia's dominance, back-to-back World Title victories for Roberts would catapult him into the category of the world's finest Muay Thai talents. And toppling the Ukrainian in doing so certainly has the potential to send a message to any future opponents in ONE.
