Rory McIlroy Takes Two-Shot Lead At The Masters As Bryson DeChambeau Challenges

Rory McIlroy surged to a two-shot lead at The Masters after an impressive third round. Bryson DeChambeau trails closely, setting up an exciting final day.

Rory McIlroy is on the brink of making history after an impressive third round at the Masters. Starting the day three shots behind leader Justin Rose, McIlroy ended with a two-stroke lead. This performance marks his seventh round of 66 or better at Augusta, second only to Tiger Woods. He also became the first player in Masters history to start with three consecutive threes.

McIlroy's round included birdies on three of the first five holes and an eagle on the second. Despite bogeys on the eighth and tenth, he rallied with strong shots later. At 35, he aims to join an elite group of six players who have won a career Grand Slam. His performance included another eagle on the 15th, equalling his best single-round eagle tally in a major.

McIlroy Leads The Masters with DeChambeau Close

"A dream start, just making a three on one, the chip-in on two, it was about time I did it," McIlroy said. "I got off to the best start, you're trying to keep it going. The course got pretty difficult towards the end. A little wobble around the turn but I played a solid back nine." This marks his first time leading after 54 holes since 2014; he has won four out of five times from this position.

Bryson DeChambeau added excitement with a remarkable finish, birdieing both the 16th and 18th holes. His long putt on the last hole thrilled fans as he completed his round with a score of 69. DeChambeau is now two shots behind McIlroy and will be paired with him for Sunday's final round.

"That's what dreams are made of," DeChambeau remarked about being two shots behind McIlroy. "I couldn't ask for more. I've got more work to do on the range, I'm super focused and excited for the challenge ahead." Last year, DeChambeau triumphed over McIlroy at the U.S. Open in a memorable contest.

Corey Conners finished with a score of 70, placing him at eight under par. Patrick Reed and Ludvig Aberg are tied for fourth place. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler struggled through his round with a score of 72 and is now five under par alongside Justin Rose, whose hopes dimmed after scoring three-over-par 75.

The stage is set for an exciting final day at Augusta National as McIlroy seeks to secure another major victory while holding off fierce competition from DeChambeau and others vying for glory.
