Rory McIlroy Anticipates 2025 Open At Portrush Amid Unfinished Business

Rory McIlroy is focused on the upcoming 2025 Open at Royal Portrush, reflecting on his recent performances and expressing a desire to resolve past challenges.

Rory McIlroy is already setting his sights on 2025, with a particular focus on Royal Portrush. The past year has been a mix of highs and lows for the four-time major champion. He secured victories at the Dubai Desert Classic, DP World Championship, Zurich Classic, and Wells Fargo Championship, along with seven top-10 finishes. However, he faced disappointment at the U.S. Open after leading by two strokes with four holes remaining.

Despite his recent successes, McIlroy has not claimed a major title in over a decade. In July, he will return to his home course at Portrush for the 153rd Open, where he previously missed the cut in 2019. Speaking to Sky Sports, McIlroy shared his thoughts on what lies ahead next year, including his return to Portrush.

McIlroy Looks Forward to Portrush in 2025

McIlroy expressed excitement about playing the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in May. "I love that we're playing the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in May," McIlroy said. "It's when I know the golf course the best and I know that it's going to play, you know, the characteristics." He looks forward to this event as it coincides with when he typically plays the Wells Fargo Championship.

The golfer is eager to revisit Portrush due to unfinished business from his last appearance there. Additionally, he anticipates returning to Augusta for The Masters. His focus remains on improving his performance at these significant venues.

McIlroy acknowledged that despite not winning the US Open yet, he has become a better player at its venues. Reflecting on past performances, he noted missing cuts in 2016 at Oakmont and subsequent years until 2018. However, since 2019 through 2024, he feels he's had a chance to win each Sunday he's played there.

"I think the one thing that probably won't get enough credit," McIlroy stated regarding his US Open efforts. He emphasized how much effort he's put into changing his approach and playing style for this championship.

The upcoming tournaments present opportunities for McIlroy to showcase improvements made over recent years. His determination to succeed remains strong as he prepares for challenges ahead.
