Rory McIlroy Becomes A Scary Prospect For Rivals After Grand Slam Triumph, Says Xander Schauffele

Following his Grand Slam victory, Rory McIlroy is seen as a formidable competitor by Xander Schauffele. With newfound freedom from pressure, McIlroy's potential for future major wins looks promising.

Rory McIlroy's recent achievements have made him a formidable opponent in golf, according to Xander Schauffele. McIlroy, at 31, became the first since Tiger Woods in 2000 to secure all four major titles with his Masters win this month. This victory marked his first major win since the 2014 PGA Championship. His earlier wins include the U.S. Open in 2011 and the Open Championship in July 2014.

Between 2011 and 2014, McIlroy joined an elite group of golfers by winning four major titles before turning 25. He followed legends like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Bobby Jones. Schauffele, who tied for eighth at Augusta, praised McIlroy's accomplishment as significant for golf. "Anything to get eyeballs on our game is a good thing," he said. "Him winning the Masters is obviously an incredible achievement."

McIlroy's Grand Slam Makes Him a Threat

Schauffele believes that McIlroy's recent success could make him even more challenging for competitors. "If that was something that was holding him back, and now he feels free, that could be a pretty scary thing," Schauffele noted. When asked about McIlroy's potential to add more major wins, Schauffele expressed confidence in McIlroy's abilities: "Yeah, I don't see why he wouldn't."

Schauffele himself has had a successful career recently, winning both the PGA Championship and the Open Championship last year. He also secured an Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020. Despite missing two months due to a rib injury earlier this year, Schauffele is optimistic about his performance for the rest of the season.

Reflecting on his own goals, Schauffele shared his ambition of achieving a career Grand Slam. "It's something that's been written down a long time ago," he said. He acknowledged the rarity of this achievement in men's golf history but remains hopeful after last year's successes: "It definitely lets a young pro like myself dream a little bit more again."

"Would I be surprised if he started rattling some off? No," Schauffele added about McIlroy's potential future wins. "Am I going to be there to try and stop him? Absolutely." This determination highlights Schauffele's competitive spirit as he looks forward to challenging himself further in his career.

The pursuit of greatness continues for both golfers as they aim for further success in their careers. With McIlroy now playing without the pressure of completing a career Grand Slam and Schauffele inspired by recent achievements, both are poised to make significant impacts on the sport.
