RTI Amendment Bill most likely to be discussed in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Sep 2: The common man's weapon of unearthing many hidden facts, is up for a discussion in Lok Sabha on Monday. A bill seeking to amend the Right To Information (RTI) Act in order to shield the political parties from disclosing information is, most likely to be discussed in Lok Sabha on Monday.

The Union Cabinet, had cleared a proposal last month, to amend the RTI Act to give immunity to the political partites and also negate a Centre Information Commission (CIC) order.

The Right To Information (Amendment) Bill 2013, was introduced on August 12, in the Lower House.

Lok Sabha likely to take up RTI Amendment Bill

The Cabinet's decision has come after the CIC ordered t bring six national parties- Congress, BJP, NCP, CPI-M, CPI and BSP under the purview of the RTI Act.
The Government has proposed an amendment of the act, which defines public authority to shield political parties.

The CIC in its order said that the six national parties have been substantially funded indirectly by the central government and are required to appoint public information officers as they have the character of a public authority under the Act.

Many RTI activists have opposed the proposed amendments.
