Oz PM's wife to climb Mt Kilimanjaro

Brisbane, Jun 9: Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd's wife, Therese Rein is preparing for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro later this year.

Revealing this, Rudd said his wife was 'one tough lady' and that she had been in training all year to take part on the expedition with their son Nicholas.

Asked if he thought it was an invasion of his wife's privacy, Rudd said, "If magazines choose to photograph people training at the gym through their cameras without their consent well, I presume, it's a matter for those magazines."

Rudd said he was 'fair game' because he was the one in the family who'd chosen to go into public life. "That's as it should be and I think others would have different views in terms of other members of your family," he added.

He also said, "She's one tough lady and I wouldn't like to be competing against her as she climbs up Mt Kilimanjaro." Rudd said he would not be joining his wife on the climb.
