'Rusty' Asif must prove fitness to earn place back into national squad: Younis

By Super Admin

Karachi, Aug.15 (ANI): Tainted Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif's aspirations of a come back into the national team have received a jolt, with captain Younis Khan saying that he (Asif) must prove his fitness to secure a place in the team for the Champions Trophy.

"Asif has to prove his form and fitness after long lay-off and after one-year ban," Khan said.

Interacting with media persons at the residence of Sindh Sports Minister Muhammad Ali Shah, Khan said a one-week training camp would be organised either in Karachi or Lahore for the Champions Trophy preparations.

Asif's career had plummeted after he failed a dope test during the Indian Premier League's (IPL) inaugural season. The 26-year-old pacer is hoping to find a place in the Pakistani team after serving a one-year ban imposed by the PCB.

The PCB has already included him in the preliminary list of 30 probables for the Champions Trophy.

When asked about the PCB's decision to appoint former captain Javed Miandad as batting consultant of the team, Khan said he is looking forward to some important tips from Miandad.

"He (Miandad) got a wealth of knowledge about batting and can help batsmen to overcome their problems," The News quoted Khan, as saying. (ANI)
