Safin fined for audible obscenity

MELBOURNE, Jan 20 (Reuters) Marat Safin was fined 2000 dollars today for audible obscenity after he swore at the umpire during his third-round defeat by American sixth seed Andy Roddick.

The Russian lost his temper after being forced to play on what he considered was a wet surface. He ended a heated exchange with French umpire Pascal Maria by swearing at the official.
