Saiki sets Japanese record with dramatic win

TOKYO, Apr 22 (Reuters) Miki Saiki broke the record for the fastest victory since joining Japan's LPGA Tour after a dramatic final round at the Fujisankei Ladies Classic today.

The 22-year-old sank three straight birdies from the 13th hole to secure a one-stroke victory just 112 days since turning professional.

Ai Miyazato set the previous record in 2004 when Japan's number one player won her first tournament 146 days after her professional debut.

Saiki's birdie run on the back nine gave her a one-shot victory over Ayako Uehara and Midori Yoneyama in Shizuoka in only her fourth tournament.

''I felt like God was smiling on me when I made those three birdies,'' Saiki told reporters. ''It's unbelievable to be able to win a tournament this quickly.'' Reuters BJR GC1548
