SAIL wins Junior Nationals

Vijayawada, Apr 22 (UNI) SAIL today defeated combined SAI 4-2 in the finals of the under-18 Junior National Hockey Championship played at Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.

For SAIL, Jabed Khan scored the first goal in the second minute of the match and Birendra Lakra scored the second goal in the 11th minute.

Though combined SAI's Captain Jay Karan reduced the margin in the 21st minute through a penalty corner, SAIL's Birendra Lakra added one more goal to the team's tally in the 31st minute of the first session.

In the 32nd minute, SAI's Gurvinder Singh failed to convert the penalty stroke.

In another match for third place earlier in the day, Jharkand defeated Chattisgarh 4-1.

Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) Vice-Chancellor Balamohan Das distributed the prizes to the players at a function organised this evening.
