Sarkozy seeks answers on France World Cup debacle

By Samyuktha

Paris, Jun 24: After France's disappointing performance in FIFA World Cup 2010 devastated 50 years of the country's football heritage, President Nicolas Sarkozy has sought explanations on the team debacle.

Sarkozy has reportedly called on the ace striker Thierry Henry to explain the team's embarrassing ouster from the 19th FIFA World Cup in the Group stage itself.

Henry will meet President Nicolas Sarkozy for crisis talks on Thursday, Jun 24, The Telegraph reported on confirmation from the presidential palace.

However, more that the on-field poor show, it was the off-field turbulence that has bothered the president.

Nicolas Anelka's insults to coach Raymond Domenech, a players' strike and Domenech's refusal to shake his South African counterpart's hand have created the greatest outrage back home, the Brit publication said.

"The President wants any decisions to be taken calmly and without haste. Knowing the interest he has in football, you can imagine that he isn't indifferent to what happened," a government spokesperson is quoted as saying.
