Saurashtra bowlers shine, Orissa in backfoot

Rajkot, Nov 12 (UNI) Saurashtra bowlers tripped through the Orissa batting-line up and restricted them to a score of 302 in their first innings, replying to the hosts' massive 620 for four declared on the penultimate day of the four-day super league Ranji Trophy match at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium here.

After Saurashtra enforced the follow on, the visitors were four for no loss in their second essay at stumps. Bikas Pati was batting on four while skipper S S Das was on zero.

Saurashtra have a full session tomorrow, in which they will have a chance to bowl out the visitors and earn six points from this match.

Resuming at the overnight score of 46 for no loss, Orissa were all out for 302 in their first innings. Medium pacer Sandeep Jobanputra struck in 21st over and dismissed B Pati as he was caught by wicketkeeper Sagar Jogiani. He has made 33 runs.

Few hours later, Jobanputra dismissed well settled skipper Das who was marching towards ton. He was dismissed for 76 in similar way as his partner. In his 76 runs innings, he smashed 10 boundaries while faced 163 balls and occupied the pitch for 224 minutes.

Another notable contributions were from S Biswal (62) and S Sehgal (64 not out). Biswal's 62 runs innings studded with seven fours and one six.

Ninth wicket stand of 61 runs between Sehgal and P Das defied some resistance and carried the score from 223 for eight to 284 for nine. Most of the runs were scored by Sehgal, who remained not out on 64. He smashed eight fours and two sixes facing 93 deliveries.

Left-arm medium pacer Jobanputra and off spinner K Makwana shared four wickets each by giving away 56 and 142 runs respectively.

BRIEF SCORE: Saurashtra (Ist innings) 620/4 declared.
