SC's verdict on vacating Constitution Avenue not for PTI: Imran Khan

Posted By:
Islamabad, Aug 26: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Inran Khan on Tuesday said the verdict of the Supreme Court to vacate the Constitution Avenue was not for his party.

Speaking to an Indian news channel, the cricketer-turned-politician said the PTI was not conducting its sit-in protest on the Constitution Avenue. The 55-year-old leader, who has been leading his party's protest against the Nawaz Sharif government over issues like corruption and demanding the prime minister's resignation, said his party wanted those who rigged the 2013 general elections to be held accountable.

In the 2013 election, Sharif's PML-N won 166 seats followed by the Pakistan People's Party (44 seats) and the PTI (35 seats). Sharif became the prime minister for the third time.

Former poll panel member Afzal Khan alleged that the 2013 poll was rigged

Khan said an independent probe into the rigging couldn't be conducted till Sharif remained the prime minister and sought his resignation. According to him, if the investigation cleared Sharif, he could return but if it was not, then Pakistan should go for re-elections.

On Monday, former additional secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan, Afzal Khan alleged that the 2013 general election was rigged on a massive scale and also accused former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, retired judges Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Riaz Kayani and former Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin Ibrahim of involvement in the rigging.
