Scottie Scheffler is in a strong position as he heads into the final round of The Open. After an impressive performance at Royal Portrush, Scheffler leads by four strokes. He shot a 67, bringing his total to 14-under par after 54 holes. Notably, Scheffler has won the last nine events where he held a lead after three rounds.
Rory McIlroy added excitement to the tournament with his remarkable play. Starting strong, McIlroy birdied three of his first four holes and made a spectacular eagle putt on the 12th hole. This came after he skillfully hit out of the rough on the 11th. McIlroy finished with a score of 66, tying for fourth place at eight-under par alongside Chris Gotterup, Harris English, and Tyrrell Hatton.

China's Haotong Li is currently in second place after shooting a two-under-par 69. Matt Fitzpatrick holds third place. Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau scored a 68 but remains at two-under par overall. He trails behind players like Tommy Fleetwood and Keegan Bradley. Shane Lowry is also not in contention, while Justin Rose made eight birdies to reach five under.
Scheffler expressed his enthusiasm for the competition, saying, "I like being out here competing." He is eager for the challenge ahead as he aims for his first Open title and second major win this year. "Winning major championships is not an easy task," he noted, emphasizing his readiness for Sunday’s final round.
Scheffler highlighted key moments from his round: "I had two really nice par saves on the back nine that were key." He mentioned crucial putts on holes 11 and 14 that helped maintain his clean scorecard. "Anytime you can keep a clean card around a major championship, you're going to be having a pretty good day," Scheffler remarked.
As Scheffler prepares for the final day, he plans to focus on each shot individually. "Going into Sunday I'm going to step up there on the first tee and I'm going to be trying to get the ball in the fairway," he explained. His strategy involves concentrating on hitting greens with precision.
The tournament has seen thrilling performances from various players, but Scheffler's consistency sets him apart as he aims for victory at The Open.
