Science kicked me in the ass - UFC star Jon Jones reacts to CSAC ruling

Jones had tested postive for a steroid Turinabol during a pre-fight drug test ahead of the Light Heavyweight championship bout with Daniel Cormier in UFC 214.

CSAC revoke Jon Jones' fight license

Bengaluru, February 28: The undefeated former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones blames science after he had his license revoked by the California State Athletic Commission on Tuesday (February 27).

Jones had tested postive for a steroid Turinabol during a pre-fight drug test ahead of the Light Heavyweight championship bout with Daniel Cormier in UFC 214. Bones won that contest but was stripped off the title with Cormier reinstated as the champion, due to his immediate ban.

"Science has been kicking me in the ass," Jones told the members of the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) during the disciplinary hearing in Anaheim. (quotes from MMA Fighting)

"This situation is like really, really crappy. I don't understand how any of this happened and how it got in my system," he said. "Imagine being me. I have no clue how this happened. I'm just trying to figure it out just like everybody else."

Despite his plea, the commission fined Jones $205,000 and revoked his license to fight. This in turn will stop him from competing until after his upcoming hearing with United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which may reportedly only happen in August.

"This makes no sense for him to take this drug on a test that he knows is coming," CSAC Executive Officer Andy Foster said during the hearing. "That doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. But I do believe he should sit out for a while."

After Jones sees what USADA rules against him and serves them, only then he will be able to reapply for his license with CSAC and demonstrate what steps he took during the time off to clean up his act.
