Scotland Yard detectives to reach Jamaica today to help local police

Kingston, Mar 31 (UNI) A team of homicide detectives from Scotland Yard is arriving Jamaica today to assist local sleuths in late coach Bob Woolmer's murder investigation.

Local media reported that four senior Scotland Yard detectives are expected to review the progress of the sensational murder case, besides visiting the 12th floor room of the Pegasus Hotel where Woolmer's body was found by a hotel maid and also conduct a forensic review.

''We have invited four senior Scotland Yard detectives to come and look at what we have done so far and to see if we are on the right track. We are making the investigations as transparent as possible,'' a senior officer of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) told The Gleaner.

Jamaican National Security Minister, Dr Peter Phillips, sought the help of Britain's top investigative agency, following discussions with Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas.

Meanwhile, The Gleaner reported that a pillow, which was found in Woolmer's hotel room soaked with blood at both ends, is among several pieces of vital evidence which the investigators are looking at.

Investigators have so far collected at least 39 statements from persons who were on the 12th floor of the Pegasus Hotel on the day of the Englishman's murder.

They will be dispatching teams and using diplomatic channels to contact persons whom they have identified on the footage of the CCTV installed at the hotel.

According to police reports, Woolmer was discovered unconscious in his room on March 18 sometime about 10:45 a.m (local time). He was pronounced dead at the nearby University Hospital at about 12:14 p.m (local time), a day after Pakistan crashed out of the cricket World Cup following their shocking defeat at the hands of Ireland.
