Scottie Scheffler Seals 20th PGA Tour Win With Four-shot American Express Victory

Scottie Scheffler moved further clear at the top of men’s golf after securing a four-shot victory at the American Express in California, reaching 20 PGA Tour titles in the process and matching historic benchmarks set by Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus before turning 30.

The world number one reached the 20-win landmark in his 151st PGA Tour start, which made Scheffler the third-fastest player to get there in terms of tournaments played and also the third youngest, adding another layer to a career that already includes four major championships.

Scheffler closed with a six-under-par 66 on Sunday, overturning a deficit to overnight leader Si-Woo Kim and pulling away from the field at the American Express, with the dominant finish securing a comfortable four-stroke margin and underlining why Scheffler is currently viewed as the standard setter on the PGA Tour.

The 29-year-old joined Woods and Nicklaus as the only players to win at least four majors and 20 PGA Tour events before turning 30, while Rory McIlroy had been the most recent golfer to reach 20 PGA Tour victories, achieving that milestone in 2021.

That record places Scheffler behind Woods and Nicklaus for speed of accumulation yet still highlights a rapid rise, with Scheffler also putting together a streak of 16 consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, an extended run of consistency rarely matched in the modern schedule.

"It's pretty wild," said Scheffler, who carded a six-under par 66 on Sunday to surpass overnight leader Si-Woo Kim. "It has been a great start to my career and I've had some nice wins out there. It has been special and I try not to think about that stuff too much. Going into the season, I was just trying to do the things I needed to do in order to be prepared to come out and play this week. I'm going to go home, get some rest and kind of rinse and repeat."

The achievement at the American Express adds to Scheffler’s growing list of landmarks, and the mixture of major titles, consistent top-10 results and now a 20th PGA Tour victory before the age of 30 reinforces Scheffler’s status among the most productive players of the modern era.
