Scottie Scheffler matched the Memorial Park course record at the Houston Open on Friday. He emphasised the importance of patience to maintain focus. The world number one golfer leads by one stroke at the halfway mark, ahead of Taylor Pendrith and Min Woo Lee. Scheffler achieved an eight-under 62, equalling his own record from 2021.
Scheffler's round included eight birdies and no bogeys for the second day in a row, bringing him to 11 under par. He capitalised on favourable weather before thunderstorms halted play. "It was important for me to stay patient out there," Scheffler stated. "It was nice to get off to a good start and kind of hold the momentum and keep the card clean."

Reflecting on his performance, Scheffler noted key par saves on Thursday and consistent play on Friday. "I felt like - for the most part - I kept the golf course in front of me, and I had a lot of looks for birdie," he said. His accuracy from the fairway contributed significantly to his success.
Rory McIlroy faced interruptions during his second round but managed to recover after a two-hour delay. He narrowly made the cut by reaching four under before darkness stopped play. Initially at risk of elimination, McIlroy secured his place with three consecutive birdies starting from hole 16, finishing with a four-under 66.
"I holed a couple of putts," McIlroy commented about his finish. "That was it. It was nice to see a couple putts go in and get finished." Despite challenges, he expressed satisfaction with how he concluded his round.
The tournament continues with Scheffler leading into the weekend, showcasing impressive form amidst challenging conditions. McIlroy's determination also highlights his ability to adapt under pressure, ensuring both players remain contenders as they advance further in the competition.
