Scottie Scheffler Describes PGA Championship Win As His Hardest Battle In Golf Career

Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Championship, labelling it the hardest battle of his career. He overcame a five-shot lead loss and fierce competition to secure his third major title.

Scottie Scheffler described his victory at this year's PGA Championship as the toughest challenge of his career. He secured the title at Quail Hollow, finishing five strokes ahead with an 11-under score. Starting the final round with a three-shot lead, Scheffler overcame a five-shot deficit and resisted Jon Rahm's challenge, who briefly tied with him before faltering on the Green Mile.

Scheffler's performance on the back nine was crucial to his win. He birdied holes 10, 14, and 15 to distance himself from competitors. Reflecting on his first PGA Championship win alongside two Masters titles, he said, "To step up when I needed to the most, this back nine will be one that I remember for a long time." He acknowledged the difficulty of the tournament, noting that he didn't play his best in the initial rounds but managed to post competitive scores.

Scheffler's Hardest Battle at PGA Championship

The turning point came during Saturday's final five holes when Scheffler shot five-under to secure a three-shot lead. This advantage proved essential in keeping Rahm at bay. "I knew somebody was going to make a move today," Scheffler remarked. "There's too much talent in the game of golf for me to slap the ball around today with a three-shot lead."

Scheffler remained focused despite knowing Rahm had tied with him by the 10th hole. He concentrated on executing shots and staying composed. Praising Rahm as a formidable player who excels under pressure, Scheffler admitted he only relaxed after safely crossing water on the 17th hole. With confidence in his lead, he felt assured heading into the final hole.

This triumph marks Scheffler's third major win, adding to his two Masters victories. Currently ranked world number one, he aims to complete a grand slam by winning The Open and US Open. "I love coming out here and trying to compete and win golf tournaments," he expressed about his passion for the sport.

The Endless Pursuit of Excellence

Scheffler is already preparing for upcoming tournaments. He emphasised that regardless of recent success or setbacks, each week presents new opportunities and challenges in golf. "If I show up and miss the cut next week," he noted, "I'm going to have to answer questions of what went wrong and just start over again on Thursday."

For Scheffler, competing is both challenging and rewarding. The constant pursuit of improvement drives him forward in his career. Golf offers endless chances for redemption and success, making it one of life's great joys for him.
