Scottie Scheffler's recent victory at The Open has set a high standard in golf, according to Rory McIlroy. Scheffler clinched a four-stroke win at Royal Portrush, marking his fourth major title, with two achieved this year. The U.S. Open remains the only major he hasn't won yet. McIlroy, who tied for seventh at 10-under par, acknowledged Scheffler's dominance in the sport.
McIlroy praised Scheffler's consistent performance over the past few years. "None of us could hang with Scottie this week," McIlroy stated. "He's an incredible player. He's been dominant this week. Honestly, he's been dominant for the last couple of years." McIlroy further noted that Scheffler is setting the benchmark for others in golf.

Scheffler has achieved 10 consecutive wins when leading after three rounds. Since 2020, he leads in wins and top-10 finishes at major championships with four victories and 16 top-10 placements. This year alone, he has secured four wins and 13 top-10 finishes, maintaining a top-10 position in his last 11 events since March.
McIlroy expressed admiration for Scheffler's approach to the game: "I think all you can do is admire what he does and how he does it," McIlroy continued. "He just goes about his business, doesn't do anything overly flamboyant, but he's the best at executing in the game right now."
Xander Schauffele, who shared seventh place with McIlroy, compared Scheffler to Tiger Woods due to his dominance. "I think people are shy to say it, but he's doing Tiger-like stuff," Schauffele remarked. He highlighted the sentiment players feel seeing Scheffler's name on leaderboards.
Reflecting on his own performance, Schauffele felt slightly deflated but appreciated the support from fans: "There's nothing quite like going up on any tee box or green and you get some sort of applause; it's an awesome feeling for us players."
After winning the Masters in April, expectations were high for McIlroy to secure more majors this year. Although that hasn't happened yet, he delivered strong performances at both the Scottish Open and during his time in Northern Ireland. He remains focused on playing his best golf.
"All I can do is focus on myself and try to play the best golf that I can," McIlroy said. "I know that when I do that, I'll have my weeks where I'll contend and hopefully win."
Scheffler's achievements continue to inspire admiration from fellow golfers and fans alike as he sets new benchmarks in professional golf.
