Scottie Scheffler expressed his delight in presenting Rory McIlroy with the Green Jacket at the Masters. This gesture followed a memorable moment shared with the Grand Slam champion. McIlroy triumphed over Justin Rose in a play-off at Augusta, securing his long-awaited victory. This win ended an 11-year wait for a major title, making McIlroy the sixth player to achieve a career Grand Slam.
McIlroy's victory places him among legends like Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. Scheffler, who won the Masters in 2024, had the honour of assisting McIlroy into his Green Jacket. "It was cool to see him get the job done," Scheffler remarked. He also noted the joy evident in McIlroy and his family during this special occasion.

As the first European to win all four majors, McIlroy ended years of speculation about when he would complete this feat. Scheffler acknowledged that McIlroy has achieved everything in golf except perhaps an Olympic win. "The guy has won FedExCup, the Players [Championship], all four majors," Scheffler added.
The day was emotional for McIlroy, and Scheffler aimed to avoid any awkwardness while helping with the jacket. "I just tried to stay out of the way and get the jacket on without embarrassing him or myself," he said. He witnessed the entire celebration unfold.
Scheffler himself has claimed two major titles at the Masters in 2022 and 2024. Although he was favoured to win this year, he finished fourth at Augusta. Reflecting on his career, Scheffler said he doesn't often think about career goals but focuses on getting the most out of himself.
"I don't have the understanding of what it's like to be asked about the career Grand Slam," he mentioned. However, he empathises with being questioned about unaccomplished goals despite significant achievements. Watching McIlroy's relief upon winning was "pretty awesome," according to Scheffler.
Scheffler believes that winning a career Grand Slam is a dream for any golfer but prefers staying present-focused rather than dwelling on future aspirations.
