Scottie Scheffler, the reigning champion, remains in the hunt at the Masters despite not performing at his best during the second round. Justin Rose is leading after two rounds at Augusta National. He followed a remarkable seven-under 65 in the first round with a steady one-under 71 on Friday. Rose holds a narrow one-shot lead over Bryson DeChambeau halfway through the tournament.
Rory McIlroy and Corey Conners are both just one shot behind DeChambeau. Meanwhile, Scheffler shares fifth place with three others, trailing by three shots. His second round included a challenging stretch with three bogeys over five holes. However, he managed to finish with a one-under 71. "The winds were up this afternoon, which made it pretty challenging," Scheffler told Sky Sports Golf.

Scheffler is aiming for his third Masters title overall and hopes to be the first since Tiger Woods to win consecutive editions. Despite some difficulties, he remains optimistic about his chances. "I also wasn’t getting the ball in play as much," he admitted. "I probably wasn’t as sharp as [Thursday], but to get in one under was pretty good." Conditions were tough, but he stayed competitive.
The par-three 12th hole proved tricky for Scheffler when his approach shot went beyond the hole onto a slope with plants overhanging. However, he executed an impressive chip-in for a birdie. Additional birdies on the 14th and 17th holes helped him recover some ground, although he did bogey the par-three 16th.
Scheffler reflected on the challenges of playing in windy conditions: "When you’re playing for the wind - and it turns around and goes straight down - it’s very challenging." He felt fortunate to have seen his ball emerge from the bushes and capitalised on that opportunity. Scheffler could join an elite group of players who have won three or more green jackets.
This exclusive club includes legends like Jack Nicklaus with six titles, Woods with five, and others such as Phil Mickelson and Nick Faldo with three each. As Scheffler continues his pursuit of another victory at Augusta National, fans eagerly watch to see if he can secure another green jacket.
