Scottie Scheffler has decided not to participate in The American Express tournament in California next week. This decision is part of his ongoing recovery from a hand injury. The injury occurred while he was preparing Christmas dinner, leading to surgery to remove glass fragments from his hand. Scheffler had already missed the first PGA Tour event of the year, The Sentry, and will also skip this week's Sony Open in Hawaii.

Despite initially planning to return for the tournament in La Quinta starting on January 16, Scheffler has been advised against it by his medical team. He shared on Instagram, "After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week's American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal." He remains optimistic about starting his 2025 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am.

Scheffler's absence from these tournaments highlights the importance of prioritising health over competition.
