Seeded Sean Quan and Kuwar upset in Asian Junior Ist round
Chandigarh, Nov 3 (UNI) Aamir Sohara MM created an upset as he stunned eighth seeded Sean Yip Quan of Malaysia in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 in the boys singles of the Asian Juniors Tennis tournament here today.
Fifth seed Kunwar Singh Tater was also ousted by lucky loser Dheer Anus Bhatti by 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in another first-round encounter.
Other seeds had a smooth sailing in their opening round matches.
Top seed Vishal Passi beat qualifier Aayush Mintri 7-5, 6-3 while wild card and second seed Nguyen Hoang Thien of Vietnam had a cakewalk 6-0, 6-0 win over wild card Japanese Ogihara Kenta.
Local lad and fourth seed Nischay Rawal outplayed Ajay Singh Thakur in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.
CLTA trainee Kamal Kishore Maderana defeated wild card Nikhil Passi in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
Another CLTA trainee third seed Digvijay Singh Naruka faced little resistance from Rishab Aggarwal 6-3, 6-1.
Top seed Delhi-based Tarranum Handa began with a bang as she did not drop even a singles game on her way to a 6-0, 6-0 verdict against lucky loser Priya Selvakumar in a girls first-round match.
In contrast second seed wild card Tamhita Nguyen of Philipines was extended by Roma Chandiran before winning at 6-1, 7-6 (5), 6-1.
Wild card Rajbir Kaur overcame a stiff resistance from qualifier Kavita Mishra in three seta. Rajbir Kaur won the first set with ease at 6-1. Kavita hit back with vegeance and won the second set at 4-6 to make it 1-all.
However, Kavita looked exhausted and Rajbir raced to a 6-0 victory.
Wild card Sonali Bansal downed a plucky lucky loser Bhavya Wadhawan 6-3, 7-6 (5) in another girls singles first round match.
