Bangalore, Mar 3: The indomitable Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, today said they were surprised to find themselves in the same half of the draw in the 600,000 Dollar WTA Bangalore Open and their first aim now was to reach the semifinal.
"We were surprised as we are seeded second and third respectively. Now we are aiming to reach the last four. Then let's see," reigning Wimbledon Champion Venus said.In an interaction with reporters here, Serena said she had recovered well from the injury she suffered in the Australian Open and was now ready for action.
"I will have to beat Venus first," Serena said. Playing under pressure is no problem for the sisters. "We have always fared better under stress. "Life is always a challenge. We both enjoy taking up challenges. We have good experience in playing under stress," they said.
On the absence of Indian star Sania Mirza the Williams sisters said they respected the Hyderabad lass. "We both respect Sania. She is an extremely good player. Hope she would play here next time," they said.
While Venus said she did not know much about Indian women in tennis, Serena quickly added that there was good talent in this country and with good encouragement the Indian girls will come up well in the near future.
On the two sisters seen wearing saries at a function yesterday, they said they were excited about the Indian dress. "The fabric was very nice. The culture is so different and exciting in India," they added.
