Seventh All India BSNL Table Tennis inaugurated at Meghalaya

Shillong, Sep 26 (UNI) The five-day seventh All India BSNL Table Tennis Tournament, organised by BSNL North East-I Circle, was inaugurated here at the U Tirot Sing Indoor stadium.

The tournament was declared open by HRD Director Dr Niranjan Singh yesterday.

Speaking as Chief Guest on the occasion, Dr Singh expressed his happiness over the selection of Shillong, a city famous for its natural beauty, for the tournament just a day after India won the Twenty20 World Cup final.

He urged the participants to bring more laurels to the country and improve the standards at the national and international levels.

He said recruitment under sports quota was being done by all the circles adding that BSNL had been affiliated to the Sports Federation of India.

Altogether, 211 players would participate in the event from 22 different BSNL circles throughout the country. 22 men's and 16 women's teams will participate in the tournament.

BSNL would be hosting such a mega event for the first time in this circle.

The tournament will be conducted by 12 technical delegates nominated by the corporate office from different circles. Besides, local referees will also assist in the event.

The game will be conducted in team events for men and women, open singles, doubles, mixed doubles and also for veteran singles.

Meghalaya Transport Minister Deborah C Marak will preside as the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony on September 29.
