Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Scores 38 Points To Propel Thunder To 2-0 Lead In NBA Playoffs

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points and led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a commanding victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, taking a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals. His performance included eight assists and three steals.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shone brightly with 38 points, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 118-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. This win gave the Thunder a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals. Gilgeous-Alexander's performance came just a day after he was honoured as the NBA's MVP. He made 12 of his 21 field goal attempts and converted 13 of 15 free throws.

Before the game, Commissioner Adam Silver presented Gilgeous-Alexander with his MVP trophy. His all-around play also included eight assists and three steals. Jalen Williams contributed significantly with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Chet Holmgren added another 22 points for Oklahoma City. The Thunder's defence was formidable, limiting Minnesota to just 41.4% shooting.

Thunder Lead Series 2-0 After Gilgeous-Alexander's Performance

Lu Dort and Jalen Williams were recognised for their defensive prowess earlier in the day, being named to the first-team and second-team all-defense respectively. Their efforts were crucial in anchoring a defence that stifled the Timberwolves' offence. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 32 points but needed 26 shots to reach that total.

Jaden McDaniels added 22 points, and Nickeil Walker-Alexander scored 17 for Minnesota. Despite their efforts, they couldn't overcome Oklahoma City's strong performance. The series will continue with Game 3 scheduled for Saturday in Minneapolis.

A pivotal moment came when Gilgeous-Alexander hit a three-pointer with just 16 seconds left in the first half. He followed this by sinking two free throws with only three seconds remaining, helping Oklahoma City secure a halftime lead of 58-50. By halftime, he had already scored an impressive 19 points.

The third quarter saw Gilgeous-Alexander driving into the paint and making an improbable shot while being fouled by his cousin, Alexander-Walker. He completed the three-point play to extend the Thunder's lead to 73-64. Later, Cason Wallace lobbed a pass to Holmgren for a powerful dunk on a fast break, pushing Oklahoma City's advantage to 82-65 late in the third quarter.

Building Momentum

The Thunder entered the fourth quarter with a commanding lead of 93-71. Their relentless play ensured they maintained control throughout the final period, securing their second consecutive win against Minnesota in this series.

This victory not only highlighted Gilgeous-Alexander's MVP calibre but also showcased Oklahoma City's depth and defensive strength. As they head into Game 3, they carry momentum and confidence from their recent performances.
