Shaunae Miller-Uibo Named International Event Ambassador for Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon

New Delhi, Sep 24: Two-time Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo has been named the International Event Ambassador for the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, scheduled to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 18.

The Bahamian sprint star won back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the women's 400m at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. She became only the second woman, after France's Marie-José Pérec, to successfully defend an Olympic 400m title.

Miller-Uibo, who also won the 400m gold at the 2022 World Championships, holds the Bahamian national record in the 200m with a time of 21.74 seconds.

Expressing her excitement about visiting India, Miller-Uibo said the Delhi race's community spirit was particularly appealing.

"Running has taken me to many incredible places, but I'm especially excited to visit India, and particularly New Delhi, and be part of a race that has such a deep connection with its community," she said.

She also hoped her experience at the highest level would inspire participants.

"Progress is built one step at a time. I hope my journey inspires runners here to trust their process, stay consistent and keep believing in what they can achieve," she added.

Miller-Uibo has enjoyed an illustrious career, including World Championships medals in the 200m and 400m, Commonwealth Games gold in the 200m and a mixed 4x400m relay gold for The Bahamas at the World Athletics Relays.

Beyond athletics, she has been involved in charitable initiatives in The Bahamas, particularly those supporting children and young people.

Her presence is expected to add further star power to the Delhi Half Marathon and offer participants an opportunity to interact with one of the most accomplished 400m runners of her generation.
