Sher-e-Jallandhar edge out Orissa Stealers

Chennai, jan 18 (UNI) In a match marred by the award of a penalty stroke Sher-e-Jallandhar edged out Orissa Stealers 2-1 , up by a goal at half time, in the BSNL Professional hockey League (PHL) here today.

The lions dominated initialy and went into the lead in the 31st minute through striker and former India captain Gagan Ajith Singh. However, a fighting Orissa team drew level in the 55th minute when Stelles converted a penalty corner.

Then came the anxious moment when the third umpire, who is to adjudicate only goalline decisions, awarded a penalty stroke to Sher-e-Jalladhar. Baljit Singh Dhillon converted the shot. The Orissa team protested over the awarding of the penalty stroke.

The win increased Sher E Jallandhar's tally to ten points. The Orissa Stealers are, however, not far behind, with eight points in their kitty.
