Shers-Dynamos clash in PHL washed out due to rain
Chandigarh, Feb 11 (UNI) The opening match of the second leg of the Premier Hockey League (PHL) between last year's runners-up Chandigarh Dynamos and strong contenders Sher-e-Jalandhar at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium was washed out due to rain here today.
Continuous rain for the last two days had left some patches of the astroturf waterlogged and the organisers announced postponement of the opening fixture.
A spokesman of the organising committee said that the match would be rescheduled and new date of the Shers-Dynamos clash would be announced after availability of the slot on ESPN Star Sports which is telecasting the PHL matches live.
The Shers and Orissa Steelers are tied at 14 points each, while Bangalore Lions with nine points were at the second spot at the end of the first leg that concluded at Chennai. Three teams--Chandigarh Dynamos, Maratha Warriors and Chennai Veerans are tied at the third place with seven points apiece. Hyderabad Sultans with five points are at the fourth spot.
Punjab Governor Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues was to inaugurate the second phase of the PHL.
Maratha Warriors will meet defending champions Bangalore Lions under the floodlights tomorrow.
